Strapon Newbies: Tantus Bendover Beginner Kit Review

Before I started working at The Spot, I was a (well-satisfied) customer. One of my favorite pre-employee purchases was the Tantus Bendover Beginner Kit. I was a little nervous the first time I talked to my boyfriend about strapon play. It was something I had been wanting to try for a while, but I wasn't quite sure how he would react. It turns out I had nothing to worry about. He had been wondering about it, too, and was glad that I had brought it up! Yea for communication!

Research

We took our time with the research. There were tons of inexpensive harnesses on amazon and ebay, but we didn't want to purchase something that would just fall apart or contain harmful substances. Then I ran across a video review of the Tantus Bendover Beginner Kit, and knew I had found what we wanted.

First, I loved Tantus' focus on safety. The company was started by a woman who wanted to bring healthy, enjoyable, beautiful pleasure products to the main stream market. All of her products are 100% medical grade silicone without any additives or fillers. The silicone is purchased in the United States and tested by a third party to ensure quality. This superior grade of silicone is safe for the body, won't discolor or absorb fluids, and is easy to sterilize.

Second, I loved the products in the kit! The machine-washable harness features a velvet-soft front panel and adjustable straps around the waist and legs. Snapping tabs allow you to interchange the ring that holds the dong in place. Oh, and did I mention that it comes with two dongs? That's right, Tantus designed this kit with graduation in mind. The smallest dong is perfect for the complete beginner. It's silky smooth, about the thickness of my thumb, with a flexible-yet-firm feel. The slight curve of it's 4 1/2 inches gently stimulates the prostate. The other dong is a bigger version, with a width of about two fingers and a length of 5 1/2 inches.

What got me really excited about the Bendover Beginner Kit? The pocket for the vibrating bullet! The one-speed bullet slips into a hidden pocket in the harness behind the base of the dong. It sends out buzzing stimulation for both him and her. Bonus: It's waterproof!

Purchase

Since I was giving this kit as a birthday present for my boyfriend, I decided to purchase it from a local boutique. I didn't want to play a waiting game with the post office, and I wanted to be able to return it if I found a defect. So, I called around the Dallas area. The Spot was the only place that had one in stock and guaranteed its quality an entire year. All of the other shops I talked to either were out of stock (yes, it's that popular) or wouldn't take it back under any conditions! Nick, the guy who answered the phone when I called, said he'd hold the very last one for me until I could pick it up the next day. How awesome is that?

Unboxing

I ended up with the black kit, but it also comes in a pearlized purple. The packaging was fresh and modern, with a white background and different colored circles containing descriptions of the contents. Clear plastic blister packaging displayed both dongs and the velvet panel on the harness. I couldn't wait until the boyfriend's birthday, so I opened it right away to check it out. Fortunately, the packaging snaps open, so I didn't have to destroy it to retrieve the products.

The dongs were perfectly smooth with no visible seams. The silicone gripped my skin a tiny bit, but instantly turned slippery-slick with the application of a little personal lubricant. They were both very flexible, and had a bit of "give" when I squeezed them. I'm curvy, with a waist of about 42 inches, but the adjustable straps fit me just fine with plenty of left-over. The kit comes with two silicone rings designed to hold a dong in the harness. Tip: snap the ring in place before putting on the harness.

After a quick peek in my full-length mirror, I unbuckled the harness, washed the dongs with some antibacterial cleanser, and repackaged it all. One gift bag and some tissue paper later, and I was ready for the birthday celebration!

First Use Impressions

Wow! Using a strapon with my boyfriend was unlike anything else we had experienced together. Initially we were both a little fumbly, but neither one of us was feeling any pressure to get things perfect the first time. We took our time, and made adjustments whenever something felt awkward. Eventually we found our rhythm, and fun was had by all!

Things we adored about the kit: The two dongs allowed us to experiment with size. We found that starting with the smaller one, then changing to the larger worked great! The vibrating bullet worked just like I hoped. He could feel the sensation, especially when the harness was pressed against him. And even though the bullet wasn't positioned directly on the clitoris, I still felt a pleasant vibration that added another layer of experience.

Things we'll do differently next time: I'll want to better secure the straps. The material was a bit slick, and I had to pause a few times to re-tighten. Perhaps tying a little knot in the "tail" that exits the buckle would prevent them from loosening past that point? I'll also purchase a better quality lubricant. I've heard that with strapon play, if you think you have enough lube then you don't! That's so true! It felt like we had to reapply lube about a million times. Next time we'll try System JO's H20 lubricant designed for anal play. It mimics the performance of a silicone lubricant without running the risk of damaging silicone pleasure products.

Final Thoughts

Tantus is a great introduction to high-quality pleasure products. The medical grade silicone was forgiving and flexible, but firm enough to provide sensation. It was also easy to clean. I wiped the dongs down with an antibacterial cleanser immediately after use, then threw them in the top rack of my dishwasher later for a thorough cleaning. We both enjoyed the vibrations from the bullet. I also like the fact that the harness was both comfortable and machine washable. But if we continue to experiment with strapon play, I may upgrade to a briefs-style harness that won't require adjusting.

If I had had it to do all over again, would I still go with the Bendover Beginner Kit? Yes! The pros for this pleasure product definitely outweighed the cons. Because of the two dongs and the vibrating bullet, I'd recommend it to any couple wanting to try strapon play for the first time.
